SEND Touch Rugby in Ashford
Inclusive, Active and Fun for Everyone,
We’re so excited to be working with Ashford Rugby Club and Unstoppable Girls to bring inclusive SEN Touch Rugby sessions to children and young people of all abilities here in Ashford.
The sessions take place every Saturday morning at Ashford Rugby Club and are led by Martin Worthington and Neil Buckley, together with a fantastic team of volunteers from across the club. Martin, who is also the Vice Chair of Ashford Rugby Club, and Neil both have a great understanding of children with SEND and create a relaxed, welcoming space where every child can join in, learn at their own pace, and have fun.
Touch Rugby offers so many benefits for children and young people with SEND. It helps to build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills in a supportive, non-contact environment. The focus isn’t on competition but on inclusion, friendship, and fun. Many of the children who attend tell us how much they love being part of a team where everyone is accepted and valued.
One parent shared,
Thank you for today, my son really enjoyed himself so much he’s been on Amazon Prime and purchased a rugby ball 🤣.
Another parent told us,
My son has been every week since the sessions started. He loves it and feels part of something, which is something he struggled with in other clubs or groups.
We’re also looking forward to connecting with other inclusive rugby teams across Kent, including Thanet Wanderers, who’ve inspired our journey. We hope to enjoy a friendly SEN Touch Rugby session with their team around Christmas time.
If you’d like your child to give SEN Touch Rugby a try, come along and see what it’s all about. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a smile.
